What are the different types of hosting packages?
There are several ways to get your data hosted.
Web Hosting
Web Hosting or Shared Hosting, as the name implies, means that you rent some space along with other customers on a server owned and operated by a hosting provider. The main advantage here is that you are sharing the server with others, so you also share the cost, so it’s usually only a few pounds per month. Shared hosting also included a control panel to make administration as easy as point-and-click. The disadvantage is that the server is not yours, it’s owned and operated by the hosting provider, so if they need to reboot the server to apply an update or fix an issue, you’ll experience some downtime, for example.
At QuickHostUK we offer fully managed shared hosting. So even though your hosting package comes with a control panel such as cPanel, Plesk, or Windows, you never actually have to log in. Simply pop a support ticket in and our friendly staff will handle any request for you. We also use rebootless patching technologies to limit the number of reboots and downtime.
VPS or Cloud Servers
VPS or Cloud Servers on the other hand are only used by you. This provides excellent uptime and performance. They usually start at the same price as shared hosting, however, they do not include a hosting control panel by default. They are often the go-to choice for business website owners who want the best speed and uptime. They offer the flexibility of being set up exactly as you want it. From the server hardware spec, OS, software stack such as LAMP, LEMP, LLMP, or WAMP, and control panel.
It’s worth remembering that your virtual server is still actually running on a physical server, or cluster of physical servers in a Cloud, along with other user’s servers, and therefore can still experience downtime or performance issues like shared hosting in rare instances. The main disadvantage is that you must have a good knowledge of managing servers and their configurations to install and manage all of the needed software.
Dedicated or Metal Servers
Dedicated Servers by contrast have all of the benefits of VPS and Cloud Servers, except that they do not share anything with anyone else. You will have your own physical server with its own physical disks, CPU and memory, and even your own network port.
