What is a domain name?
A domain name is a unique address that is used to access online services such as websites and email. An example would be ‘quickhost.uk’, ‘google.co.uk’, and ‘facebook.com’.
You might have ‘www.example.co.uk’ as your website and ‘email@example.com’ as your email.

What is .uk?
In 2014, the newest member of the UK Domain Family was launched: .uk. It is a top-level domain (TLD) that celebrates all forms of digital development in the UK. It works the same way as all other domains you may be familiar with, including .com and .org. .uk represents what’s new in the UK’s digital development.
What are 'Auto-Renew Only' domains?
Some country-code and specialty domain types (TLDs) do not renew the same way as .com and other generic TLDs. Certain domain names are auto-renew only and must be renewed before the normal expiry date. These auto-renew-only domains cannot be renewed by manually placing a renewal order, or by allowing auto-renew on the expiry date. How long does it take to register a domain name?
After you have registered a domain name with QuickHostUK it will usually start working immediately, however, can take up to 24 hours for your domain name to propagate to all of the root DNS servers. Your domain may show up in the WHOIS database before it has fully propagated to the root DNS servers.
How long does it take to transfer a domain name?
When a domain transfer is started and gets to the Awaiting Registrar portion of the process, it means the receiving registrar is awaiting the sending registrar to respond. This can take up to 7 days. A full registrar transfer can take up to 7-14 days.
Internationalised Domain Name (IDN)
Foreign language domain names containing non-ASCII characters are known as internationalized domain names (IDNs). IDNs can be registered using native language characters (non-ASCII characters) or Punycode characters (ASCII characters). The .xn-- essentially means everything that follows is encoded-Unicode.
