.is domain registration requirements
Iceland is represented by the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) .is
Anyone can register a .is domain name. Registration is valid for a period of one year only. It is possible to renew the domain right after the registration for one year in one order, but no more than four years in total. The period between the registration and expiration date of a .isdomain cannot exceed five years.
It may take up to an hour for the domain to appear in your QuickHostUK account following registration.
After the registration order has been submitted, the domain contact verification (registration) is required in order to maintain the domain in a proper manner.
Upon the creation of a .is domain, ISNIC (.IS Registry) sends the “ISNIC Contact Registration” email to the Registrant’s email address. Please follow the link to register (verify) the contact information (if it is new) for your .is domain name within three business days.
The first thing you must do is log in to your ISNIC account. If you have never logged into your ISNIC account before, you will need to use the “Lost password” form. The email from ISNIC includes the NIC-handle of the Registrant that is required for login.
The domain becomes fully manageable once the domain contact has been verified. The contact information for the domain will not be able to be changed until the domain is verified.
There are also specific technical requirements for nameservers for .is domains:
- A minimum of two different nameservers must be specified, and the hosts must not resolve to the same IP address.
- There should be a pre-configured DNS zone.
- A domain should be pointed to an NS record with a TTL of 86400 (24 hours) or more.
We provide DNS options that are compliant with the above requirements, so you can easily register your domain with QuickHostUK DNS.
Registry parking nameservers will be used for domains registered with custom DNS servers that do not meet the Registry’s requirements.
Due to registry restrictions, Domain Privacy cannot be used for .is domains. For individual registrants, only the Registrant country is displayed in Whois; for organizations, only the Registrant email and country are displayed.
Register your .is domain from our domain registration page.
