CentOS 8 End-of-Life (EOL) Announcement

The CentOS Project has recently announced significant changes in its roadmap that may significantly affect infrastructure and deployment for its users.

The most notable changes announced include:

  • CentOS 8 accelerated end-of-life. No further operating system updates will be available after December 31, 2021.
  • CentOS 8 will be transformed into an upstream (development) branch of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) called CentOS Stream
  • CentOS 7 will remain part of the stable branch until June of 2024.

This means that CentOS 8 should not be considered for use in production environments.

Need a CentOS 8 alternative? We’ve listed a few options in our blog post here Goodbye CentOS Linux – Hello CentOS Stream
