Learn moreWhat is a RIPE LIR?
The RIPE NCC is the Regional Internet Registry for Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia. A Local Internet Registry (LIR) is a RIPE NCC member that can request and manage internet number resources for others. QuickHost is an LIR, so we can sponsor resources for you without you needing your own membership.
What does sponsorship mean?
We act as your sponsoring LIR with the RIPE NCC: we submit the request, hold the sponsorship agreement and look after the ongoing administration. The resources themselves are registered to your organisation.
What are provider-independent (PI) resources?
PI addresses are assigned to your organisation rather than to a provider, so they stay with you when you change hosting or connectivity providers.
What is the difference between PA, Sub-PA and PI addresses?
PA (provider aggregatable) addresses belong to a provider and are lent to you while you are their customer. Sub-PA is a block of a provider's PA space assigned onward. PI addresses are registered to you and are not tied to any provider.
Can I get new IPv4 addresses?
The RIPE NCC no longer has new IPv4 space to assign. If you already hold IPv4 PI space, or are transferring some to your organisation, we can sponsor it.
Can I get provider-independent IPv6?
Yes. We can request an IPv6 PI assignment for your organisation.
What is an Autonomous System Number (ASN)?
An ASN identifies your network in internet routing. You need one to run BGP with other networks, connect to more than one provider, or announce your own IP space with your own routing policy.
Who can apply?
Any organisation in the RIPE NCC service region. Your details are checked as you apply, and the RIPE NCC makes the final decision on every request.
Can I change my RIPE records myself?
Yes. You get RIPE NCC Access and your own maintainer, so you can update your records directly whenever you need to.
How do I pay?
Sponsorship is billed yearly. You can pay by annual invoice or from your QuickCloud credit. Prices exclude VAT.
Can I use my ASN with QuickHost?
Yes. Bring Your Own IPs lets you announce your ranges from our network with your ASN, and use them on QuickCloud, dedicated servers, colocation or your own site.
